Fasch - Concerto for 3 Wind Bands for 25 winds and timpani (11'00)
Johann Friedrich Fasch’s CONCERTO FOR 3 WIND BANDS (Concerto für drei chöre, FWV L:D 13) requires a much larger ensemble than Handel’s Musick for the Royal Fireworks. It is therefore notable for being the largest known instrumentation for winds and percussion in the baroque era. The four movements are antiphonal (but not in echoes) and have a surprisingly lacy texture.
This edition has been completely re-set using excellent computer-based music notation incorporating the dynamics and articulations used in performances conducted by the editor at the International Double Reed Society’s meetings in Frankfort, Germany, Madison, Wisconsin and Provo, Utah.
The instrumentation is for three choirs EACH with 3 oboes, bassoon, 3 trumpets and a pair of timpani for a total of 9 oboes, 3 bassoons, 9 trumpets and 3 pair of timpani. An optional part for 1 contrabassoon is included. Piccolo trumpets are needed only on 1st parts in each choir. Price includes score and parts.
