If you can't find enough players for the original instrumentation, perform this version because the music is very good and deserves to be heard. Weait - Little March for Small Band (2'15)

Little March for Small Band was composed for the 1962 Fourth of July celebration at the Yale Summer School of Music and Art in Norfolk, Connecticut. A few wind players prepared a "band concert" suitable for the occasion. A visiting musician, Les Thimmig, later of the University of Wisconsin, volunteered to play bass clarinet. The piece is dedicated to him. Scored for 2 flutes (2nd / piccolo), 2 oboes, 2 B-flat clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns in F, Bf-lat trumpet, trombone and double bass.

Holzbauer - Divertimento for 2 horns and 2 bassoons (6'30)

Ignaz Jakob Holzbauer (1711 - 1783) composed this Divertimento in C with six short movements. This edition has horn parts in F and bassoon parts without any tenor clef. The second horn has a lot of notes below the treble staff but some higher notes are shown. We have also prepared a version of the same work for four bassoons [1007B]. Total duration 6'30.

Handel - Alla Hornpipe for double reed quartet (1'20)

"W. H" (19th Century) - Tally Ho Galop (3'12)

A transcription for 10 players of a piano piece discovered in a 19th century collection from my wife's ancestors. A delightfully buoyant dance. Scored for flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinet in B-flat, 2 bassoons, 2 horns in F and double bass or contrabassoon. I speculate that the composer used initials as identification to remain anonymous.

Weait - Couplets for double reed quartet (1'00)

A short work was composed for a group of high-school aged double reed players to rehearse with limited time and perform at a woodwind clinic. Rhythmically the parts use only quarter and eighth notes in cut time, but with a liberal scattering of rests within measures. The ranges are moderate for 2 oboes and 2 bassoons.

Weait - Two Canadian Folk Tunes for wind nonet (6'00)

Two Canadian Folk Tunes for wind nonet is an arrangement of two melodies found in "Come 'A Singing Canadian Folk Songs" by Marius Barbeau, et al (Ottawa: the King's Printer, 1947). "My Lonely heart" came from the singing on Mme. Bolduc, Quebec City, 1918; "the Jolly Raftsmen" is a French Canadian Ottawa River song. I later set "The Jolly Raftsman" for woodwind quintet [9513] and for twelve orchestral woodwinds as "Merry Raftsmen" [7905].

4 Marches from Early America for 2 oboes and 2 bassoons (9'15)

These Four Marches from Early America are found in the "Merrimac Collection of Instrumental and Martial Musick" by Henry Eaton Moore, printed and published by Jacob B. Moore in Concord, New Hampshire in 1833. The tempos reflect the slower, dignified marching style of the Revolutionary and Federalist periods. the United States March consists entirely of three-measure phrases
